DRUMRAGH 3-7

DONAGHMORE 0-8

Drumragh ladies eased past the challenge of Donaghmore in the Ladies Football Championship at Galbally on Saturday night. Despite perfect underfoot conditions the persistent drizzle had made the surface greasy. However, both sides made light of the conditions serving up a highly-entertaining and competitive game.

Donaghmore opened brightly and Rebecca McCrory gave them the lead after three minutes with a well-taken point. Indeed, McCrory proved to be Donaghmore’s most potent attaching threat.

Drumragh ,however, struck back with a vengeance scoring 2-3 without reply in a devastating 10 minute spell with goals from Oonagh McMacken and Neamh Woods and points by McMacken (2) and Niamh McLaughlin.

Donaghmore responded with three points, two from the influential McCrory and one from Megan Heatherington. Both sides traded points before three yellow cards in the space of five hectic minutes just before half-time.

McCrory was first into the referee’s notebook followed closely by Drumragh’s Claire McLaughlin and Donaghmore’s Carla Rafferty.

The final attack of the first half saw Donaghmore thwarted by a superb save from Drumragh goalkeeper, Clodagh Loughran, to leave the half-time score Drumragh 2-5, Donaghmore 0-6.

Drumragh started the second period brightly scoring 1-2 without reply courtesy of a superb Amy Cox goal following great approach work by Leah Quinn and Niamh Woods. Cox and Aisling Mullan added points.

Donaghmore reduced the deficit to eight points with points from McCrory and Megan McCann. They were then reduced to 14 players in the 58th minute following the dismissal of Rafferty for a second bookable offence. McMacken almost added to Drumragh’s goal tally but her fiercely hit shot struck the outside of the post.

No further scores were added by either side leaving the final score Drumragh 3-7, Donaghmore 0-8.

Best for the winners were Clodagh Loughran, Sinead McLaughlin, Ciara McCabe, Neamh Woods and Oonagh McMacken while Donaghmore were best served by the excellent Rebecca McCrory, Megan Heatherington and Nicola Carson.

Strabane 2.10

Drumragh ladies made history on Sunday afternoon in Drumquin when they won the Grade 4 league title against Strabane.

Strabane, playing against the breeze in the first half, opened the game with a superb goal followed by two unanswered points. But after a barren opening quarter Drumragh settled into the game with their first point coming from All-star Neamh Woods who was playing at midfield.

From then onwards the dogged Drumragh side controlled much of the remainder of this half.

The real spirit of Drumragh senior ladies showed up in Carrickmore on Monday night to play the League semi final against the home side.

The first point went in Carmen's favour but was quickly erased by a super goal from Neamh Woods. Despite playing into a strong breeze the third and fourth scores came from Drumragh's Amy Cox and Neamh Woods. Carrickmore came back with four unanswered points to make it 1.2 to 0.5 at the break. Drumragh, now playing with the breeze, opened the scoring in the second half and for the remainder of the game were in total control. A goal and two points from Clare Mc Laughlin, a point from under 16 Amy Cox and frees scored from the accurate foot of Aisling Mullan left the Drumragh in a comfortable position. While Carrickmore tried to break through, Drumragh's defence just proved too much for them and Drumragh now go on to meet Strabane Sigersons in the league final with the date and venue yet to be confirmed.

DRUMRAGH 3-16
COALISLAND 3-7

Drumragh ladies progressed to the final of the Junior B championship after beating Coalisland in Killeshil on Sunday evening.

They made a great start and got the opening score of the game after only 30 seconds when Neamh Woods ran through the Coalisland defence before hitting the ball to the back of the net. Niamh McLaughlin and Brogan Chesters got further scores before Coalisland got on the scoreboard.

Drumragh's defence all played a part in making it difficult for Coalisland to get through with captain Sinead McLaughlin leading by example before she had to be replaced through injury.

However, her replacement Claire Devlin stepped up to the mark and filled in at centre-half back well. The game was end-to-end stuff with both teams creating plenty of chances but failing to take advantage of many of them.

At half-time Drumragh led by two points and Woods again at the start of the second half settled Drumragh nerves with a marvellous point. Coalisland had a girl sinbinned and Drumragh went further ahead with scores from Oonagh McMackin, Amy Cox and Clodagh Loughran.

Coalisland came back to within three points but Drumragh dug deep and, using their bench for fresh legs, ran out easy winners in the end. They will meet Carrickmore B in the final.

DRUMRAGH 6-17

MNA NA DEIRGE 1-7

Drumragh ladies got off to a great start in their championship campaign with a comfortable win in the first round game against Mna na Deirge at Killyclogher on Sunday evening.

From the start Neamh Woods and Brogan Chesters dominated midfield with both feeding good ball into the forward line as well as taking on some spectacular scores themselves.

The forward line worked particularly well, linking up with some excellent passes and hitting scores from all angles. Young Amy Cox showed no fear in her first year competing at senior level scoring from various ranges. Helen McGlone also came through some tough battles scoring a well-deserved point.

Goals were a highlight for the Drumragh crowd and the team got some stunning ones through Neamh Woods, Amy Cox, Kitty Wray, Oonagh McMackin while Niamh McLaughlin hit two.  McLaughlin also scored seven points, Woods and Cox got three each while McMackin also scored a point.

Not forgetting the strong defence, captained by Tyrone’s leading lady Sinead McLaughlin who led with outstanding skill and even challenged Mna na Deirge’s defence by popping over a point herself.

The girls held their positions well giving Mna na Deirge little room to manoeuvre. They had some great blocks and interceptions particularly Ailish Loughran’s quick-witted scoop and clearance up to the forward line. Also goalkeeper Nadine McMackin made some outstanding saves when called upon in the first half.

The subs that came on all played their part with young Clodagh Loughran, on her debut for the seniors, wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, it was good to see injuries have not deterred Leah Quinn who came on and battled well in defence.

Overall a very promising start to the championship and we wish the girls all the best when they play Coalisland in the semi-final on Sunday June 21 in Killeshil at 7.30pm.

SCORERS: Niamh McLaughlin 2-7, Amy Cox 1-3, Neamh Woods 1-3, Oonagh McMackin 1-1, Kitty Wray 1-0, Sinead McLaughlin 0-1, Helen McGlone 0-1, Clodagh Loughran 0-1

DRUMRAGH 7-18

AN CHARRAIG 1-07

Drumragh ladies kept up their 100 per cent start to the league with a very impressive win over An Charraig at Clanabogan on Saturday.

Drumragh opened the scoring with a point from Niamh McLaughlin before Neamh Woods got her first goal of the game after a strong run. Oonagh McMackin added another point and then Woods completed her hat-trick with another two goals – the second of which came from the penalty spot after Catherine Wray was fouled.

Woods got another point before An Charraig got their first score of the game. McLaughlin then hit another two points with the away side replying with a point of their own. A goal from McMackin and points from McLaughlin, Woods and McMackin gave Drumragh a seventeen point lead at half-time.

Woods opened the scoring in the second half with a point straight from the throw-in before quickly adding another along with two points from McLaughlin. Woods got another goal to stretch the lead while points from McLaughlin, Woods (2), McMackin and sub Amy Cox quickly followed.

Aisling Mullan got another Drumragh goal before McMackin soon added another. Woods hit Drumragh’s final score of the game with An Charraig getting a goal with the last attack.

SCORERS: Neamh Woods 4-07 (1-0 pen), Oonagh McMackin 2-03, Niamh McLaughlin 0-07 (0-01 free), Aisling Mullan 1-0, Amy Cox 0-01.
