Drumragh claim good League win over Glenelly PDF Print E-mail
Written by Paddy Griffin

DRUMRAGH 1-11
GLENELLY 0-9

A goal from David Chism in the first half helped Drumragh to a convincing five-point win over Glenelly in the League on Wednesday evening.

Drumragh fully deserved their victory and hit the lead early on with midfielder Paul Maguire swinging over a good point from play.

Although Glenelly soon equalised Chism got in for the only goal of the game to give Drumragh a lead which they would never lose.

The home side were able to keep in touch in the first half but two points from Martin Taggart and another from Maguire - after great work from centre-half back Benny Drum - meant Drumragh led 1-4 to 0-4 at half-time.

Gavin Quinn got Drumragh's first point of the second half from a long-range free after Gareth Starrs was fouled before Taggart converted another free, after Quinn was the man fouled, to increase the Drumragh lead.

Liam Quinn added another good score from play before Maguire put over the third free of the half. Drumragh were dominant in the second half and further points from Shane Cleary, Starrs and Drum put the game beyond the reach of Glenelly who could only respond with frees having gotten little space from a hardworking Drumragh defence.

SCORERS: David Chism 1-0, Paul Maguire 0-3 (1 free), Martin Taggart 0-3 (1 free), Gavin Quinn 0-1 (free), Liam Quinn 0-1, Benny Drum 0-1, Shane Cleary 0-1, Gareth Starrs 0-1

TEAM: Andrew Maguire, Mickey Rodgers, Chris O'Doherty, Sean O'Neill, Sean Mulvanney, Benny Drum, Gary O'Neill, Gavin Quinn, Paul Maguire, Barry McLaughlin, Gareth Starrs, David Chism, Liam Quinn, Martin Taggart, Shane Cleary

DRUMRAGH 1-6
KILLYMAN 1-12

Drumragh were beaten by Killyman in the League on Saturday.

Killyman led 1-7 to 0-1 at half-time with Gareth Starrs getting the only score of the half for Drumragh.

Drumragh, however, played much better in the second half and were unlucky not to score a goal early in the half when the Killyman goalkeeper pulled off a couple of great saves.

Killyman did eventually open the scoring in the second half but Drumragh responded with three scores in a row from Liam Quinn, Paul Maguire and Martin Taggart.

The home side stretched their lead and despite further points from Taggart and Quinn and a goal from Shane Cleary Killyman had built up too much of a lead and emerged six-point winners.

SCORERS: Shane Cleary 1-0, Martin Taggart 0-2, Liam Quinn 0-2 (frees), Paul Maguire 0-1 (free)

TEAM: Conor O'Doherty, Barry McLaughlin, Chris O'Doherty, David Chism, Sean Mulvenny, Benny Drum, Gary O'Neill, Gavin Quinn, Paul Maguire, Eamonn McCann, Gareth Starrs, Ryan Murphy, Liam Quinn, Maritn Taggart, Shane Cleary

Shane Cleary led the scoring for Drumragh with four points while Sean Bresnahan also got on the scoresheet.

Killyman, however, pulled away in the second half and got their second goal early on despite a great initial save from Drumragh goalkeeper Fergal McCarney.

Six week training plan for Drumragh 10k. PDF Print E-mail
Written by Stephen Duncan
Tuesday, 10 August 2010 18:58

It’s always great to have a target event to kick-start or increase your training programme and the Drumragh 10k course has been designed to appeal to runners of all abilities. To help you prepare for 25th September I have set out a training guide below for beginners which can be followed by intermediate/advanced runners by simple increasing the distance ran on run days to suit your current fitness level:

Remember to have good pair of running trainers for the job and to mix the surfaces that you run / jog on...E.G .grass -- treadmill – trail – road.

Never run on the road 2 days in a row at the start, it will only lead to stiff and sore muscles and the injury.

If you have an old pair of trainers use them for the grass, treadmill and trail and use your fresh pair “only” for the road.

Keep Saturdays for the road, try to mirror what happens on the day of the race, If you can get out for a run at the same time of the race “1200” noon even better.

For complete beginners you may have to start of walking at the start of a session, your aim is to increase the length of time you run / jog every time you go out, if you have to go back to walking don't worry it takes time for you body to adjust BUT REMEMBER the main reason why people find running hard is because they go out too fast too soon, so take it really, really easy at the start.

Week 1 – Commence Sunday 15 Aug

Day 1 sun 15th Slow Jog 3 miles-Treadmill or Grass
Day 2   mon 16 th Rest! “Its part of the training”
Day 3 Tue 17th 30 mins cross training,swimming or gym light weights/sit-ups
Day 4  Wed 18th Rest
Day 5   Thur 19th Warm up 5 min. 10min jog and 5 min ¾ pace x 2. Walk between each set. 2 min recovery.  cool down 5 min  (40min session)
Day 6   Fri 20th Rest
Day 7  Sat 21st 30 min steady jog

After each session get into a good habit of stretching .http://www.best-running-tips.com/article-stretching.html holding each stretch for at least 15 seconds, this will aid in recovery and decrease the chance of you injuring yourself

Good luck and enjoy

Drumragh under eights compete in Castlederg blitz PDF Print E-mail

Drumragh's under eight team travelled to Castlederg on Saturday for another blitz.

Due to holidays it was an understrength team that travelled, however, the players equipped themselves very well winning two of their three games.

As ever the under eights fielded two evenly matched teams with 19 players in total involved.

Overall it was a fine performance from Drumragh with all players showing marked improvement in their skills and team awareness.

The games saw some fine scores from the likes of Dillion McNamee, Sean Coyle and Tadhg Cunningham.

In defence Ciaran McManus, Paul Devine and Sean Diamond played well while other performers of note were Daniel O’Neill, Gareth McCrystal, Josh Coyle, Patrick Stewart, Francis Shiels, Connor Quinn and Ryan Quinn.

The Castlederg pitch was in fine shape which was fitting when graced with the energy of Tiernan Smithson, Steven Coyle and Connor Kelly.

In midfield Jack Monk put in another trojan performance winning a lot of ball and putting in some great tackles.

Saturday also saw a fine player of the week-winning performance from Cormac Norris who made the ball do all the talking... and what a story it told.

Drumragh mums continuing to progress PDF Print E-mail

Gaelic 4 Mothers started in Drumragh with an aspiration that some mums wanted to exercise but were not able for competitive football! A meeting was convened on May 27 to determine interest and 27 mums showed up.

Training commenced the following week where 49 mums showed up! This was something that women wanted and what a difference eight weeks has made to these women!

This group of mums started training on Thursday June 3. A lot of them not knowing each other never mind how to solo a ball, fist pass, punt pass or shoot for points.

Under the expert tutelage of Mickey Rodgers, Johnny Edgar and James Campbell the Drumragh Mums have now played Carrickmore Mums in a friendly, played at half-time mini games in Clones during the Senior Ladies Ulster Final and taken part in an Ulster Blitz in Saval, Co Down, against 14 other teams from around Ulster.

This group of women who until seven weeks ago had never met has been transformed into a unit of women who have a shared passion for gaelic football, for exercise and a genuine friendship for each other.

Training was to stop until September but the women have asked that the training continues throughout the Summer months.

Gaelic 4 Mothers is something that every club in Tyrone should have. To go to the Ulster Blitz in Saval was a great achievement. The women only see one way forward – onwards and upwards.

Drumragh Mums are now preparing for a National Blitz in October. Anyone interested in Gaelic 4 Mothers can contact Sheena Tally at the Ulster Council or anyone interested in joining the Drumragh mums can contact Anne Donaghey.
